1st Family Preference (Unmarried

Sons or Daughters Over 21 of U.S. Citizens)

The first preference family-based immigration classification includes unmarried sons and daughters of United States citizens and their children, if any. It refers to adult children that have reached 21 years of age before petitioning for immigration. There are generally 23,400 visas of this type in addition to unused fourth preference visa quotas. Numerical limitations restrict the amount of immigrant visas available, therefore priority dates are issued in the order in which the petition was filed or received by the Immigration and Naturalization Service. As such, one's priority date is quite significant in the immigration process, especially given that the time frame may exceed several years. Click visa bulletin to view the current dates.
